Traumatic Subdural Hygroma

Abstract
The author reviewed 27 cases of post-traumatic subdural hygroma and discussed the clinical and radiological features, management and surgical results, and also reported the findings of computed tomography in 6 cases. The site of lesion was clinically delineated by angiography, but preoperative differentiation from subdural hematoma was possible only with computed tomography. The mortality was 7%. Good recovery occurred in 74%. Changes in mental state without focal signs of brain damage were noted in over 50% of cases. Skull fracture was often associated with cerebral atrophy, cortical contusion, subdural hematomas, and overlying epidural hematomas. The characteristic angiographic and computed tomographic scan findings are discussed, as are surgical pathology and outcome.
